1. Background and purpose of the research

As part of my Master's thesis at the Faculty of Management at the Open University, I will be conducting research examining to what extent AI usage is associated with job perceptions. The study seeks to contribute to a better understanding of how AI usage impacts workplace dynamics and employee well-being. My supervisor for this research is Dr. Alexander Henkel.

As professionals use AI more in their workflows, understanding its effects becomes crucial. While AI can improve efficiency, it may also raise concerns about professionals' job perceptions. This research builds on existing theories of workplace technology adoption and psychological empowerment to assess AI’s broader implications.

2. What participation means and what is expected of you

Participation involves completing an online survey, which will take approximately 5 minutes. The survey consists of questions about your general and AI-specific job perceptions, and some demographic information.

3. Possible advantages and disadvantages

While there are no direct personal benefits, your responses will contribute to a better understanding of AI’s effects in the workplace, helping organizations develop more effective AI integration policies. There are no significant risks associated with participation. However, if any questions make you feel uncomfortable, you are free to skip them or withdraw from the study at any time without any consequences. Should you nevertheless experience unpleasant feelings after participating in this study, you can always contact the research team via email.

4. If you do not want to participate or want to stop the study

You decide whether you will participate in the survey. Participation is voluntary. If you do not wish to participate, this has no negative consequences. If you participate, you can always change your mind and quit, even during the survey. If you withdraw before submitting the survey, your responses will not be saved. You do not have to explain why you quit. The data collected up to that moment may be used for the research.

5. End of participation

Your participation in the research ends when you complete and submit the survey. The entire research is finished when all participants are ready. If you are interested in the results, you may indicate this to the researcher after completing the survey. In this case, the researcher will inform you about the most important results of the research via email after having processed the data. This happens approximately 4 to 6 months after your participation.

6. Use and retention of your data

For this research, general and AI-specific job perceptions and demographic data (i.e., age, gender, tenure, function) is collected, used and stored. This is necessary to answer the questions posed in this study. The results of the research will be shared with the academic community and all other interested parties in an aggregate form. The data cannot be traced back to you in reports and publications about the research. This data cannot be traced to you in any way. The collection, use and storage of your data is necessary to answer the questions asked in this study. The data will be processed in the thesis and cannot be traced back to you.

Data can also be shared with other researchers to conduct further research. The data that will be shared does not contain any information that can be traced back to you. Further research does not hold any consequences and will be fully anonymous.

7. Confidentiality of your data

The demographic data can’t identify you in any way. The data will be safely stored like this within the Open University. Persons who access the information are the researcher and supervisor and potential collaborators on future research building on this study.

8. Data retention period.

Your data must be retained by the Open University for 10 years.

9. More information about your rights in data processing

For general information about your rights when processing your personal data, please consult the website of the Authority for Personal Data. The Open University's privacy disclaimer can be found at www.ou.nl/privacy.

10. Do you have any questions?

If you have any questions, please contact the researchers before, during, and after the study at tarik.laaouina@student.ou.nl
