Global NEWS is an international and interdisciplinary working group focused on researching the relationships between anthropogenic activity and the impacts of nutrients in coastal waters. The group has been active since 2002, and their most important goal is to develop global models for the transportation of nutrients to coastal waters. 

The first NEWS models were presented in 2005 (Beusen et al., 2005; Bouwman et al., 2005; Dumont et al., 2005; Harrison et al., 2005a; Harrison et al., 2005b; Seitzinger et al., 2005). These models are focused on N, P, and C. In this task we are focussing on one particular NEWS-model: the NEWS-DIN - a model for dissolved inorganic nitrogen.
