We will now explore the effects of eutrophication in surfacewater, and the occurance of 'dead zones' in particular. We will cover the most important eutrophicants and discuss the most important causes for their prevalence in our coastal waters. Possible future scenario's will also be contemplated. Furthermore, we will explore the nitrogen cycle in general terms and discuss the processes of nitrification and denitrification.
