1.1 What is a Climate Impact Analysis?
Climate Impact Analysis (CLA) is a method that practitioners and policymakers can use to analyse and assess climate risks and vulnerabilities within a certain region. Depending on the region, different types of vulnerabilities (e.g. drought, flooding, etc.) may be assessed. Identifying these vulnerabilities is crucial for decisionmaking.
Local and regional data is essential for accurate assessment of risks. The amount and recency of such data therefore significantly affects the accuracy of the assessment and its results. A lack of recent data inevitably leads to less accurate results, which subsequently makes decisionmaking more challenging. Luckily, a range of publicly available online tools exist to access necessary data.
This unit will cover the basic principles of Climate Impact Analysis and highlight several online tools that can be used to conduct one. In this unit's task you will be invited to conduct your own analysis for a region of your choice.
